It’s two days until Christmas, and I’m thinking about how God
so loved the world that He gave… Jesus
was love incarnate, here on the planet to demonstrate sacrifice in ways we’d
never conceived of.
As Jesus dealt with people, he usually cut to the
chase. He skipped past what was being
asked and addressed the issue of the heart – Sell all you have and give it to
the poor (to the rich man asking about being saved). Where is your husband (to the woman at the
well)? …and so on.
As a parent, it’s easy to be consumed with the immediate
issues; sometimes, I know I miss the big-picture questions. Neil calls them: gut-level needs that determine their sense of
worth and belonging.
This one got me: Does
your child know that he [or she] is loved and valued from the way you talk to
him [or her]?
Like Jesus, I want to see past the immediate issues to the
heart of the person who’s standing in front of me. I want to meet those needs that only God can
see. Now that I’m looking for them, I’m
trusting Him for wisdom…
