Five years ago, an Israeli soldier was captured by the
Palestinians. He was finally
released a short time ago, in a prisoner swap. He was traded for 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, many of whom
had carried out terrorist attacks on Israeli soil.
The question, of course, is, why? What does it mean that one life is worth 1,000 others? It got me thinking – who would trade a
life, anyway? What is it worth?
It made me think of Jesus, who stepped into my place and
took my punishment. He gave His
life so I could have mine back. I
know it’s not an exact analogy, but it’s not every day I start thinking about
the value of a single life.
Jesus traded places with me so I could have peace with God;
I carry that peace around with me, and it touches every part of my life. I’m so grateful.
